The Drone is a Lesser Machine introduced in 1-1: HEART OF THE SUNRISE, and is the second Machine-class enemy that the player encounters in ULTRAKILL.
Drones are small, purple flying disk-shaped machines with a circular pink light in the middle of their front face.
A special Ghost version of the Drones is present in 7-S: HELL BATH NO FURY as part of a hidden secret, as well as an unlockable Cheat.
Behavior
Drones move around by dashing spontaneously. They also tend to evade the player’s attacks with these same dashes. Their scanners will beep when they do not have line of sight with the player, making chirp-like sounds that can be used to find a hidden Drone's location.
Attacks
Hell Orb Burst
During this attack, the Drone's light will turn red for a moment, then it will fire three Hell Orbs that do 25 damage in a line pattern, which can be parried. The charge can also be parried, and parrying it with the
Feedbacker or
Knuckleblaster will award the + HOMERUN style bonus.
Suicide Dive
When its health is depleted, the Drone will dive towards the player in a last ditch effort to kill them. Upon contact with a surface, another enemy, the player, or if they are shot again, they will explode, dealing 35 damage. This attack can be parried and doing so will redirect the Drone to explode away from the player.
Strategy
Drones tend to spawn in small swarms not unlike Filth. As such, strong explosives such as
Core Eject Grenades, projectile boosts,
Rockets and
Overpump explosions are the best way to take out Drone swarms. A clear
Alternate Revolver shot will instantly take care of a Drone, making it valuable for taking out isolated Drones.
Coins are also great for killing Drones, and due to their tendency to spawn in swarms, successfully hitting the coin during its split-shot window can be an effective way to clear out two Drones at once.
Killing a Drone with either the Feedbacker or the Knuckleblaster will award the + HOMERUN style bonus.

Ghost Drones
A special ghost version of the Drone can be found in 7-S: HELL BATH NO FURY as part of a hidden secret. The Ghost Drone secret can be found by using the Vacuum on a green book switch to open a hidden passageway with a generator, then striking it with an electric weapon to spawn in the Ghost Drones.
Ghost Drones are invincible and intangible to normal weapons and the environment. When aggravated, Ghost Drones will slowly chase after the player, and will instantly kill the player on contact. Ghost Drones can be sucked up by the Vacuum present in 7-S (A reference to the game "Luigi's Mansion") in order to remove them. A special Drone Haunting Cheat, unlocked after removing all of the Ghost Drones in the 7-S secret, causes normal Drones to turn into aggravated Ghost Drones when killed.
