The Mysterious Druid Knight (& Owl) is a secret boss found in 4-3: A SHOT IN THE DARK. They appear as a humanoid skeleton wearing a helmet with a yellow plume, with an owl seated on their shoulder.
Behaviour
The Mysterious Druid Knight shares the same AI as the Drone, moving around by dashing spontaneously and tending to evade player attacks with these same dashes. However, they have far different attacks compared to Drones.
Once the fight begins, they will say the following quotes:
The Mysterious Druid Knight has four phases in total:
- In its first phase, they will be normal, and have no status effects applied.
- Their second phase begins once the dark purple health bar is depleted, and is marked with the following quotes:
No other change will happen to the Druid Knight.
- Their third phase begins once the hot pink health bar is depleted, and is started with the following quotes:
They will then gain the Enraged status effect.
- Their fourth and final phase starts when the dark red health bar is depleted, and marked with the following lines:
They will also gain the Sanded status effect after they finish speaking.
If the player dies, the Mysterious Druid Knight and Owl will say one of the following quotes once the player restarts the encounter:
Attacks
Full Auto
The Mysterious Druid Knight will say "Full Auto", then proceed to shoot 4 volleys of 7 Hell Orbs in a hexagonal pattern, with an orb in the middle. The orbs deal 25 damage and can theoretically be parried, however due to their speed it is absurdly hard to do so.
Fuller Auto
The Mysterious Druid Knight will say "Fuller Auto", then proceed to summon 40 Hell Seekers that deal 30 damage and home in on the player. The orbs can be deflected and parried back to the Druid Knight.
Suicide Dive
When their four health bars are depleted, the Mysterious Druid Knight (& Owl) will cry out the following quotes:
Upon being defeated, they will dive towards the player in a last-ditch effort to kill them with an explosion very similar to that of a Drone. Upon contact with a surface, another enemy, the player, or if they are shot again, they will be destroyed in a large cyan explosion similar to the
Mindflayer's suicide explosion, which deals 50 damage. This attack can be parried and doing so will redirect the Mysterious Druid Knight to explode away from the player.
Strategy
The Mysterious Druid Knight can be instakilled in a similar manner to the Mindflayer; by using a well-timed explosive attack during the Fuller Auto attack, a large amount of Hell Seekers will reflect into the Druid Knight, killing it instantly or gravely injuring it. The S.R.S. Cannon's
Cannonball is especially good for this due to its explosion lingering for a long time if shot in the air. If timed correctly, the
Sharpshooter Revolver's alternate fire can also reflect massive amounts of damage back at the Mysterious Druid Knight through the large red explosions that it causes upon hitting the Hell Seekers.
For those not wishing to cheese the Druid Knight, the player can avoid using explosive attacks such as the Knuckleblaster's shockwave, Projectile Boosts, the
Pump Charge Shotgun's Overpump Explosion, the
Rocket Launcher's rockets, the
Malicious Railcannon, and the
Sharpshooter Revolver's alternate fire in order to minimize the amount of orbs that reflect back into the Druid Knight. Parrying the Druid Knight's Hell Seekers with the
Feedbacker however is advised, as it will provide a full heal and stamina recharge.
The Electric Railcannon and the
Alternate Piercer are extremely effective on the Druid Knight, especially when combined with the
Marksman Revolver's Coins to amplify their power.
The Nailguns are extremely effective against the Druid Knight, and their aim spread can be mostly nullified by placing a Magnet on the Druid Knight. Experienced players can use Overheat Storage for practically infinite heatsinks from the
Overheat Nailgun for as long as the player can keep the combo up.
Using the Whiplash on the Druid Knight will snatch it towards the player due to the Druid Knight's light weight, making snatching it and then using
Shotgun swapping and Knuckleblaster punches a great way to deal damage to the Druid Knight.
Hitting the Druid Knight with either the Feedbacker or the Knuckleblaster during its divebomb attack will award the + HOMERUN style bonus.
