P-1 |
Minos Prime is the second boss of P-1: SOUL SURVIVOR and is the Prime Soul of King Minos, forming immediately after the Flesh Prison is destroyed.
Minos Prime is a pale bluish-white translucent humanoid figure with a visible circulatory system and heart. He has two snakes wrapped around his arms, a hole where his face would normally be, and a crown of uneven rectangular prisms fused to his head. He also emits a perpetual bright blue glow.
Behaviour
Prime Souls have a stamina system, which dictates how many attacks they are able to use.
Minos Prime has 6 stamina in his first phase and 12 in his second, and recovers 5 when parried. If Minos Prime runs out of stamina, he will be unable to attack for 2 seconds.
When damaged to below 65 health, Minos Prime will enter his second phase, signified by him gaining blue flames around his body, a pulsating blue aura, and stating "WEAK." In the second phase, the intervals between his attacks become considerably shorter.
Attacks
Dropkick
Minos Prime shouts "Judgement!", enters a crouching position, then teleports towards the player before performing a dropkick, creating a large explosion that deals 50 damage.
This attack can be parried; during his first phase, a successful parry will also cancel the explosion.
If the player dodges towards Minos Prime to avoid this attack, he will immediately follow up with either a Rider Kick or an Overhead.
This attack requires 2 stamina to be performed.
Boxing Combo
Minos Prime shouts "Thy end is now!" before attempting to hit the player with a four-punch combo, each hit dealing 30 damage.
The last hit can be parried. Afterward, Minos Prime drives his fist into the ground, taking a second until he dislodges his fist, giving the player a short window to heal.
If the player is airborne after a swing, Minos Prime will immediately cancel into an Uppercut.
This attack requires 2 stamina to be performed.
Snake Throw
Minos Prime will launch a homing orange snake projectile at the player, dealing 30 damage per hit.
He may follow up with this attack after finishing any other one. The chance of this happening increases in his second phase.
The projectile can be parried and deflected. Parrying the projectile will not give Minos Prime any stamina.
Unlike his other attacks, this one expends no stamina.
Kick Combo
Minos Prime shouts "Prepare thyself!" before kicking the player twice for 30 damage each before performing a Snake Throw directly afterwards.
If the player is airborne after a kick, Minos Prime will immediately cancel into an Uppercut.
This attack requires 3 stamina to be performed.
Rider Kick
Minos Prime shouts "Die!", briefly pauses in midair while aiming toward the player before slamming toward them, creating a grounded shockwave. This attack can hit walls or the ceiling, which causes Minos Prime to release the shockwave along that surface and instantly recuperate after the attack.
The kick deals 30 damage and the shockwave deals 25 damage, although they cannot hit at the same time.
This attack requires 1 stamina to be performed.
Ground Slam
Minos Prime shouts "Crush!" and slams directly downwards, creating an explosion and a grounded shockwave.
This attack creates an explosion that deals 50 damage as well as a 25 damage shockwave.
This attack requires 1 stamina to be performed.
Uppercut
Minos Prime launches the player into the air with an uppercut that deals 30 damage.
After reaching the peak of his jump, Minos Prime will follow up with either an Overhead, or a Ground Slam if the player is directly below or a Rider Kick otherwise.
If the player is above the peak of Minos Prime's jump, he will simply fall back to the ground without any follow-up.
In his second phase, he may use a Snake Throw before following up with the previously mentioned attacks.
This attack requires 1 stamina to be performed.
Overhead
Minos Prime will teleport in front of and slightly above the player, then hit them back to the ground with an overhead strike, dealing 30 damage.
In his second phase, he may use a Snake Throw directly after attempting an overhead if it does not hit the player.
This attack requires 1 stamina to be performed.
Strategy
Before the fight begins, the player can set up traps in order to deal a large amount of damage to Minos Prime right at the start of the fight. A Sawblade Trap or a
Nail Trap can be set up to cleave through large amounts of his health once the fight starts. Throwing two coins in the air and shooting them with the
Alternate Revolver's Alt Fire beam will also destroy a sizeable chunk of his health right at the beginning. More experienced players can also line up a Railcoin to deal heaps of damage.
Once the fight begins, the player should prioritize staying grounded. Being airborne while fighting Minos Prime is gravely dangerous, as one small mistake can lead to him comboing a player, killing them, or putting them on the brink of death. If you are sent airborne by Minos Prime, it is important to ground slam as soon as possible (however bear in mind to not ground slam on any shockwaves, as that will result in both damage and you being sent flying again).
Parrying with the Feedbacker is a key part in defeating Minos Prime. Parrying his melee attacks on Standard and below will cancel them, and parrying the snake projectiles is a reliable source of health (even if the projectile does not hit Minos Prime) and damage. The
Knuckleblaster combined with
Shotgun Swapping is an extremely effective way to deal damage during Minos Prime's downtime, and Shotgun Blasts can parry his Boxing Combo attack. The
Whiplash is not helpful in this fight as Minos Prime tends to be near the player when opportunities to damage him arise. Minos' parriable attacks are: the last hit of his Boxing Combo ("Thy end is now!"), the snake projectile of his Kick Combo ("Prepare thyself!"), and his Dropkick ("Judgement!"). His lone Snake Throws can also be parried.
The Revolvers are a reliable weapon to use against Minos Prime.
Marksman Revolver ricochets are ideal for dealing damage to Minos Prime. The Alternate Revolver is a good tool for damage, provided the player is able to aim at the boss. Throwing two coins in the air and hitting them with the Alternative Piercer's Alt Fire while Minos Prime is recovering from an attack or regaining stamina is a very good technique to deal grave damage. Experienced players can also attempt to line up a Railcoin for even more damage.
Projectile Boosts are a very effective technique to deal damage to Minos Prime, as even if the projectile itself misses, the explosion will still deal a decent amount of damage to the boss. Shotgun Swapping and punching Minos Prime with the Knuckleblaster during his downtime is a good way to both deal large amounts of damage and heal.
Sticking a Magnet on Minos Prime and unloading both
Nailguns onto him is a good way to take out huge chunks of his health. More experienced players can also use
Overheat Storage for a practically infinite amount of heatsinks for as long as you can keep the combo up, which is an excellent way to not only damage Minos Prime but also recover Weapon Freshness for the other weapons.
Combining the Rocket Launcher's rockets with Projectile Boosts is a very good way to not only deal damage to Minos Prime but also to conserve Weapon Freshness on the Shotguns and to reduce arm exhaustion. Shooting a Rocket at Minos Prime while he's airborne, during either his dropkick or when he jumps into the air to perform his rider kick or a snake projectile throw, will result in a red explosion dealing double damage, making it a great way for players with good aim to deal damage to Minos Prime.

Trivia
- There is a species of bacteriophage named MinosPhrime, which is a direct reference to Minos Prime.[1][2]
- In comparison to other phages, this bacteriophage is notable for its unusual resistance to high concentrations of alcohol, being able to survive in 90% ethanol working concentration.
- Minos Prime, like his depiction in the first cantica of the Divine Comedy by Dante Alighieri, draws a heavy snake motif, since his attack trails are snakes and he throws homing golden snakes as projectiles. Even his terminal entries labeled the parasites he once commanded prior to Gabriel executing him to have originally been snakes.
- Where the similarities end is in his portrayal personality-wise. Minos in the continuity of ULTRAKILL was a beloved and peaceful ruler, whereas his depiction in the Divine Comedy was a cruel condemner and unjust judge, behest of the role of classical Rhadamanthus.
- When Minos Prime attacks, he leaves behind trails of disturbed rubble, even on a fleshy surface like in the Flesh Prison arena of P-1. Implying that he moves faster than the naked eye could see without actually teleporting, regardless of one's proximity to him.
- He and the Flesh Prison are direct references to the fight against Legion and Nuculais from the 2005 action role-playing game Castlevania: Curse of Darkness.
