The Idol is a Lesser Demon introduced in 5-2: WAVES OF THE STARLESS SEA, and is the fourth Demon-class enemy that the player encounters in ULTRAKILL.
Idols resemble elongated, marble stakes carved into the shape of statues depicting a cloaked, motherly figure holding her child, with an elongated lower body. However, their lower half is normally obscured below the ground when spawned. Idols have a distinct, large, heavenly bright blue aura around them and cast a tall beam of light when looked at from farther away. Despite being stationary, they turn to face the player when approached.
Behavior
Idols are stationary enemies, and the only action they do is protect a single enemy from any source of damage, with the only exception being environmental threats. An enemy with this effect is commonly referred to as being "idoled" or "blessed". This protection does have a limitation: blessed enemies can still be pushed by anything that usually deals knockback. Enemies under the effect of an Idol cannot be used for healing, as they cannot be damaged, and cannot be grappled or snatched by the Whiplash. A blessed enemy can easily be differentiated by their bluish-white glowing aura and a transparent white beam emanating from the enemy and connecting to the Idol. Note that this beam can pass through walls. If a blessed enemy has a boss health bar, their boss health bar appears blue, as opposed to the usual red health bar. This can be seen in levels such as 5-2 during the Ferryman's second phase transition and 7-4 during the fight with the brain of the 1000-THR "Earthmover". Additionally, if the Idol is radiant, then their target becomes radiant and inherits its radiance multipliers when the Idol is destroyed.
Idols are themselves immune to almost any source of damage and cannot be grappled by the Whiplash. The only way to destroy an Idol is by using melee attacks, such as by punching them with either the Feedbacker or
Knuckleblaster, destroying them with the
Knuckleblaster's shockwave, breaking them with the primary fire of the
Impact Hammer, or by ground slamming on them. Killing an Idol refills the player's health by 90, launches the player in the opposite direction from where the Idol was hit, and awards the + Iconoclasm style bonus.
Support Rank
All enemies are given an internal value that determines whether an Idol prioritizes blessing them when spawned. When an Idol spawned by the map blesses a specific enemy, the Idol chooses an enemy to bless based on their support priority rank. Enemies with a support rank of 0, 1, or 2 are prioritized equally, and if there are multiple enemies with the same rank, the Idol blesses the enemy that spawns closest to the player. If an enemy with a higher priority rank spawns while any Idol is blessing a lower-ranked enemy, the Idol reassigns the blessing to the enemy with the highest rank.
Though Idols always use support ranks to determine which enemy to bless by default, this mechanic is overridden in some levels for the Idol to bless a specific enemy even if they are of lower priority.
The following table outlines the internal blessing support ranking for each enemy ordered in the level in which they first debut. Each enemy's support rank can also be found on their individual pages. Lower support ranks mean the Idol is less likely to bless an enemy. Note that Idols can only bless one enemy at a time and cannot bless other Idols or enemies with a support rank of -1.

Trivia
- Idols, unlike most enemies, do not increase a level's kill counter when destroyed.
- The style bonus for destroying an Idol, + Iconoclasm, is a term which means "the rejection or destruction of religious images or objects."
- In 5-2: WAVES OF THE STARLESS SEA, 3 unfinished Idols can be found in the corner of the Ferryman's cabin, along with a hammer and a chisel on the table. This is a reference to its terminal entry, which states that Idols are carved to their shapes by Ferrymen.
