The Guttertank is a Greater Machine introduced in 7-2: LIGHT UP THE NIGHT, and is the eighth Machine-class enemy that the player encounters in ULTRAKILL.
Guttertanks are bulky, trapezoidal machines with a bright red coloration and black accents near their joints. Their legs are bent backward, noticeably equine in appearance, and their right arms are replaced with large, cylindrical, dark-green rocket launchers with the number 07 embossed onto them, connected by a black hose to a tank emitting smoke mounted on their backs, which produces a constant hissing noise. Their left arm has "FAUST PANZER" written on it, which is German for "FIST TANK".
Behaviour
Guttertanks approach the player and fire rockets at them. If allowed to get close enough, or when approached, they wind up a very quick and powerful punch. As they walk around, they sometimes place a Landmine beneath their feet.
When punching, placing a landmine, and dying, they make noises resembling garbled radio chatter.
Attacks
Rocket Launcher
The Guttertank fires a red rocket at the player when at a distance, dealing 35 damage. It will attempt to predict the player’s position while aiming.
If the rocket misses, it freezes in place similarly to the Freezeframe Rocket Launcher before exploding shortly afterwards.
Landmine
The Guttertank deploys a Landmine beneath its feet. Guttertanks can decide to place landmines randomly but are much more likely to do so while they do not have line of sight on the player. Landmines set off once they are within close proximity to the player, and jump up into the air before detonating and exploding, dealing 35 damage. Landmines do not disappear when the Guttertank that placed them is killed, except in The Cyber Grind.
Activated Landmines can be parried. A Landmine parried into an enemy awards the player with the + Served style bonus. If the Landmine is parried into the Guttertank that deployed it, it instead gives the + Landyours style bonus.
Punch
While at a close distance, the Guttertank attempts to quickly punch the player for 35 damage. The punch cannot be parried and deals heavy knockback. If the Guttertank misses their punch, or if they land their punch but are standing in Gasoline, they slip and tip over. As the Guttertank recovers, they can be parried with the
Feedbacker or with the
Shotgun or
Impact Hammer.
If the Guttertank slips, it receives 0.1 damage. If this kills the Guttertank, the player is awarded with the + Slipped style bonus.
The Guttertank can predict the player’s direct path and attempts to preemptively wind up a punch if it expects the player to be within range. This is most noticeable when approaching a Guttertank with the use of the Whiplash.
In situations with enemy infighting enabled, the Guttertank's punch deals extreme damage to Guttermen, instantly killing them.
Strategy
Guttertanks are risky to fight at close range due to their quick, high damage, and unparriable punch. Keeping distance prevents them from using this tool in their arsenal entirely. However, if one can bait out the punch, they fall and momentarily become parriable. Using the I-Frames from the dash also allows one to make them miss and slip, although this is more difficult than baiting out the punch.
Since they lead their shots, one can bait them to fire in one direction before moving in another.
Their rockets are affected by the Freezeframe Rocket Launcher's secondary fire. The player can freeze the rockets as they are fired, and shoot them with a hitscan weapon. The rockets can also be shot right as they are fired, without needing to be frozen if the player’s timing and accuracy are right.
The rockets can be ridden back by slamming on top of them into the Guttertank, netting the player an insta-kill and the style bonus + Round Trip. Freezing the rockets can make mounting them easier and will prevent the rocket from detonating on its own if its airburst startup has not yet been triggered, but it is not necessary. Any rocket mounted by the player for any length of time will instantly kill a Guttertank.
The Attractor Nailgun or
Attractor Sawblade Launcher's
magnet can attract the rockets of the Guttertanks, redirecting them away from the player and into another enemy, as well as decreasing the range of their rockets when the magnet is on them. In addition, the rocket points towards them, allowing it to be quickly frozen and redirected back into the Guttertank.
The mines Guttertanks place can be parried to damage them or other enemies. This is also a valuable source of healing, since getting close to them to heal is dangerous.
When Guttertanks are stuck in their rocket firing animation, the player can Whiplash towards them and get a quick attack in as long as they dodge their punch right after. It is important not to be hit by the rocket on the way towards them, or by dodging backwards into it as it explodes. If the player is good enough at the timing, they can consistently dodge their punches and only engage in close-range combat.

Trivia
- As can be seen from their concept art, the Guttertank was presumably originally designed as a potential alternate design for the Gutterman, but was adapted into an existing, separate enemy at some point. This is a trait shared by the Excavator, the dead machine from which the
Impact Hammer can be obtained in 7-2: LIGHT UP THE NIGHT.
- The German text located on the Guttertank's left arm, which reads "FAUST PANZER," is a nod to the Panzerfaust, a German anti-tank weapon which was used during World War 2. "Panzerfaust," literally meaning "tank fist," describes the ability of the weapon to "punch" tanks with its explosive warhead. Conversely, "FAUST PANZER" translates to "FIST TANK," a play on the original term, as Guttertanks are "tanks that punch" rather than weapons that punch tanks.
- The Guttertank's ability to instantly kill Guttermen with their punch when infighting is enabled is a reference to the their Terminal entry, in which it is stated that Guttertanks were designed as a countermeasure towards Guttermen during the Final War.
