2-4: COURT OF THE CORPSE KING is the final level of Lust, starring the boss fight with The Corpse of King Minos, split into 2 sections. The song used in this level is In the Presence of a King.
Level
Start
The start of 2-4 takes place in a large subway tunnel connected via a tram cart, that the player can interact with to move forward and backwards on the track. Riding along the tram will eventually stop at a nearby train stop, with the rest of the rail blocked by a massive blast door.
Connecting to the platform is a small set of corridors leading to a room containing the Blue Skull Key to open the path forward and the room with the pedestal to unlock it. Once the skull is placed on the pedestal, the door will open and let the player pass through.
The Hand
After the doors are opened, the player will continue down the rest of the rail until the tram stops to a halt. The lights then cut out, leading to the other side of the hallway being smothered in darkness, before a large Hand appears out from the end of the darkness, blocking the path.
The hand will then start banging and slamming into the sides of the tunnel, creating large shockwaves that the player needs to dodge past. Damaging the hand will cause it to eventually wince in pain, before increasing in speed and the amount of times it will slam. This will happen two times in total, before eventually pulling itself out of the arena and opening the path again.
Boss Encounter
The railway will then lead to a large, open room to the left of the track, with a stairway, two pillars in the center, and a Red Pedestal. The track also continues forward to a small room with the Red Skull Key to place onto the previous pedestal.
Returning back to the pedestal, once the player activates the pedestal, the room will start to shake and cause the doors out to close. Then, the ceiling of the room will be destroyed, revealing the gargantuan Corpse of King Minos looming above the player; an ant compared to the scale of the once great king.
The Corpse of King Minos mainly attacks by swinging its massive fists towards the player; requiring to be aware of when it will strike and act accordingly to either dodge its attacks, or attempt to parry the blow back into it with timing. Corpse of King Minos will also occasionally summon a Black Hole, a slow moving hazard that on contact deals 99 Hard Damage, reducing the player to 1 HP until the hard damage cap eventually wears off.
Once the Corpse of King Minos reaches half of its health, it will let go of the arena in pain, before grasping its eyes and revealing a pair of snake-like parasites, which barrage the player with various projectiles intermittently between its usual melee attacks.
After the Corpse of King Minos is defeated, the massive giant will fall toward, crashing its lifeless head onto the floor, before the exit elevator lights up within the mouth of the corpse and the player can exit the level.
Challenge
For this level's challenge, the player has to parry any of the melee attacks from the Corpse of King Minos, only needing to learn its parry window. Dashing through its attack can also help to hit the parry easier.
Trivia
- The title of the level is a reference to "The Court Of The Crimson King" from the album In The Court Of The Crimson King by King Crimson.
- Re-collecting the blue skull from its podium after opening the door does not cause the door the close, and it is possible to continue on whilst holding it. This does not unlock any secret, but in fact hinders your progress, since it is impossible to move the red skull without first returning the blue skull to one of its original podiums.
