Parry

Parrying is a game mechanic in Ultrakill that allows V1 to deflect enemy projectiles and attacks. V1 can parry by punching with the Feedbacker with precise timing. V1 can also parry melee attacks or enemies in the process of charging a projectile attack with a point-blank shot from the Shotgun. Enemies will typically flash with a yellow spark and play a sound cue to indicate that their attack can be parried. Conversely, enemies will flash with a blue spark and play a different sound cue to indicate that their attack cannot be parried. Successfully parrying will cause the game to briefly freeze and flash the screen white, before heaing V1 up to the Hard damage limit and restoring Stamina.

V1 can parry their own projectiles from the Shotgun or S.R.S. Cannon after shooting them, a technique known as "projectile boosting" or "projectile parrying". This produces the same visual effect as an enemy parry but does not restore health or stamina. Instead, the projectiles V1 launched will become powered up; one of the shotgun pellets will explode on contact with the terrain or an enemy, and the cannonball will become unaffected by gravity and deal more damage on contact with an enemy. Hitting an enemy with a parried shotgun pellet will earn the player the + PROJECTILE BOOST style bonus.
